Online Course Development Program

 

Target Audience:
  1. Full time faculty members who have not previously taught online for TWU and anticipate teaching a distance education course.
  2. New TWU faculty

 

Participant Requirements:
  1. Complete 3 week online course.
  2. Insert overview materials (participant expectations, course routines, contact mechanisms, etc.) into Blackboard shell.
  3. Develop and upload content into Blackboard shell.

 

Program Components:
  1. Online course begins on July 7, 2008 and ends on July 25, 2008.
  2. Payment 1: $750 after successful completion of course and review of overview materials for course.
  3. Faculty members, working in conjunction with their Instructional Designer, will design, develop, and upload course content (Time frame: Fall, 2008 & Spring 2009).
  4. Payment 2: $750 after successful review of course content by Instructional Designer. (Time frame: review will begin after approximately 50% of the course is complete. Payment will initiate after the Instructional Designer approves the course and can occur at anytime during the academic year.

Distance Education Innovation Institute

 

Target Audience:
  1. Full time tenured or tenure-track faculty members; must be scheduled to teach a distance course during fall 2008 and/or spring 2009.

 

Participant Requirements:
  1. Complete application form with agreement from Department Chair and Dean
  2. Complete responses to the Request for Applications
  3. Signed agreement to attend 20 hours on the Denton campus (July 28 – August 1, 2008).

 

Program Components:
  1. Innovation Institute at TWU Denton campus for one week (July 28 – August 1, 2008); 20 contact hours
  2. Successful proposals will design and test the impact of Web 2.0 technologies in one or more distance education courses during the 2008-2009 academic year.
  3. Required mid-point review due February 2, 2009.
  4. Phase one funding ($750) will be released after successful completion of the Institute. Phase two funding ($750) will be released after successful submission of the mid-point review with satisfactory progress toward project goals, objectives, and timeline.
  5. Projects proposing a study on Web 2.0 technologies and gender will receive additional priority points during review.

Teaching and Learning with Blackboard for Adjunct Instructors

 

The instructional designers will hold workshops to assist Adjuncts with their distance courses. Adjuncts should RSVP to Tracey Mac Gowan at tmacgowan@twu.edu.

Teaching and Learning with Blackboard for Graduate Assistants

Online Educator Symposium

 

This one-day event is for all distance educators. Three concurrent tracks will be featured:
 
  • Dare to Share – Learn from current TWU distance educators. Presenters will select one element of their online course to share with other faculty.
  • Distance Initiatives – Updates on current and planned online initiatives at TWU.
  • Teaching and Learning – Information on techniques for the distance course.
 
 Date: August 28, 2008
 
 Times: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
 

Faculty interested in presenting should contact apeterson@twu.edu no later than June 16, 2008. Include your name, name of the presentation, and a one-paragraph description. You can expect to present your topic for about 20-25 minutes. Please allow some time for questions from the audience.
