Searching The Discussion Board

What it is.

Blackboard 7.3 retains the search functionality on the discussion board introduced in Bb 7.2. The search function is designed as a keyword search. Options include: a keyword search field, date restrictions, and options for search location.  

Implications for Teaching and Learning.

The search feature can be an important documentation tool. A simple keyword search over all Forums can access all postings for a particular student.

How to Set it Up.

This image shows the Discussion Board screen for Blackboard 7.3. Immediately beneath the Forum button is the Search feature. The Keyword Search Field is immediately to the right of the word Search. This is where you enter search terms. Immediately beneath the Keyword Search Field is the field allowing different Options for Search Locations. This option allows you to search the Current Discussion Board or All Forums in the Course. The Date Restriction fields are found immediately to the right of these features. 

To use the Search feature, first click the Search Button. Next, enter your keyword into the Keyword Search Field. Choose your Options for Search Locations. Choose Date Restrictions or omit this feature. Click Go.
