Moderate a Discussion Forum & Grading Discussion Forums and Threads

 

You have two options when grading discussion forums in Blackboard. You can set points possible for the entire forum, or you can select the grade threads option.

 

Forcing Moderation allows you or a designated Moderator in the forum to review submitted posts and to either allow the posts to be published or returned to their owners. You can even designate students to moderate a forum. When forced moderation is turned on, messages are hidden from forum participants until reviewed and approved by the designated moderator.

 

To grade a Discussion Forum.

Click on the name of your Forum from the Discussion Board page.

 

 

Click on Grade Forum in the toolbar.

(Note: This link only appears if you selected to grade the discussion in the Forum Settings when creating the discussion forum.)

 

 

Click the Grade button to the right of the student name and information.

 

 

Enter the Grade.

Click Submit next to the Grade text field.Once you submit a grade, a link appears with the option to Clear the Grade.

 

 

 

 

Grade Thread

Instructors now have the ability to grade individual threads within a discussion forum. To grade a thread the forum must have "Grade threads" enabled. That is where you will be given the option to grade the thread and determine the point value.  NOTE:  Users cannot create new threads if Grade Thread is selected for the forum. The Grade Thread option only appears if it has been enabled when the selected in the Discussion Forum Settings during creation of the Forum.

 

The images show the Discussion Thread Grader screens for Blackboard.  The Grader is accessed through the Discussion link on the Course Menu.

 

Implications for Teaching and Learning.

If you use multiple threads within a forum for grading purposes, use this grading method.

 

To moderate a Discussion Forum.

Click on the name of your Forum from the Discussion Board page.

 

 

Click on Moderate Forum in the toolbar. (Note: This link only appears if you selected to Force Moderation in the Forum Settings when creating the discussion forum.)

 

 

All new messages appear in the Moderation Queue.

 

 

Click on the Moderate button for a post. (Located to the right of the post information.)

Select either Publish or Return

Type a message in the text box if returning the post.

Click Submit.
