Lock Forum

What It Is.

You can lock a Forum to prevent students from changing information after the due date has passed.

Implications for Teaching and Learning.

We encounter instructors that have had issues with students going back into discussions and modifying their content. Many of these instructors would set the Forum to expire at a certain date so students couldn't modify content or archive the forum. This solved the problem but did not allow others students to read or refer back to the Forum. The ability to lock a Forum allows students to read but not write to the Forum.

What do I Need to Know?

This image shows how Blackboard looks when you go into the Course Discussions area. Note that you immediately can see options to Add Thread, Remove Thread, Collect Threads, Mark Read/Unread, Moderate and Search. On the far right side of the toolbar is the Change Status to: feature, allowing you to update the availability status of selected threads or Lock/Unlock threads.

To lock a thread, you must first select it by using the checkbox in the far left column. Once you have selected a thread, you only need to click Lock to lock the thread. The status column will change to Locked.
