Instructional Design Team - What we do and how we can be of service
Consultation.
Instructional design staff members work with individual faculty members to answer questions around distance instruction. These consultations are valuable to plan course development or to discuss ways to incorporate new technologies or strategies into existing course materials.
- Meet individually or in groups to explore how to utilize the existing course management system and other tools to design, build, and manage teaching and learning activities and assessments.
- Learn how design and technology can be woven with content to increase student interaction and community.
- Explore how technology and course design can impact time and course management.
Instructional Design Services.
Instructional designers assist and support distance faculty to develop pedagogically sound strategies and materials for distance courses. Instructional designers are available to help faculty members plan their distance course and to assist in crafting strategies and explore technologies with pedagogical underpinnings to impact student learning.
Distance education employs some of the same instructional methods as traditional delivery but there are key differences. Our role is to showcase promising distance education practices and provide support and help to faculty to understand these key differences. Instructional designers can assist faculty to plan or develop distance courses, as well as materials, which take advantage of the strengths of the online environment.
The Distance Education Instructional Designers can assist you with hands-on support in your course development efforts. You may also want to participate in Workshops or Training for faculty that provides you with an overview of the Blackboard features, Promising Practices for using the tools, and discusses course design issues. Distance Education also offers instructional design consultations. You may contact any of the instructional design specialists to arrange one-on-one consultations. Further information about Instructional Design Services is found on this flyer.
