How to create a Zip File

When using large files within Blackboard we need to consider the students ability to access the files and the abilty to download the files in a timely manner. Compressing or Zipping the files will help to minimize the upload and download time of the files into your Blackboard course. Most operating systems now have a compression application within the system itself (this example comes from Windows XP on a TWU desktop).

1. From the desktop Right Click on the folder that is to be compressed. Then select the Send To and slide over to the Compressed (zipped) Folder option.

2. The Folder will be copied and compressed, the icon will be of a folder with a zipper tag on it. The original folder was 26 MB's and now the zipped folder is 18 MB's.

If you can't find a Zip program on your computer you can google free zip programs. Here is one link: http://winzip-download-now.info/
